The Department of Applied Health Research (DAHR) undertakes world-leading multi-disciplinary research to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health care and public health interventions, with particular expertise in reducing socioeconomic inequalities and evaluating health service re-organisation. The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) North Thames aims to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities through world leading applied health research.
The Teaching Fellow will be responsible for developing the research capacity building activities of the NIHR CLAHRC North Thames Academy as well as ensuring that we continue to deliver high quality activities that meet the needs of the CLAHRC community. The teaching fellow is expected to contribute to the delivery of current courses and to the design of new courses, to conduct applied health research, to show promise of continuing development of a scholar, and to perform administrative duties allocated to an acceptable standard. This post is primarily a teaching post, and the post holder will be expected to commit 70% of their time to teaching related work. The post holder will also undertake high quality applied health research in line with the interests and remit of the CLAHRC.
Professor Rosalind Raine is the Head of DAHR and the Director of NIHR CLAHRC North Thames & Professor Naomi Fulop is the Director of the NIHR CLAHRC North Thames Academy.
This post is available immediately and is funded until 30th September 2019 in the first instance.
The post holder must have a PhD in a discipline relevant to applied health research e.g. epidemiology, health services research, psychology, sociology, statistics, economics, organisational research etc.
The post holder should have experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching and other forms of public presentation of applied health research; developing innovative higher education course materials and methods of delivery, ideally including online; the ability to supervise academic work by undergraduates, masters and doctorate students; a commitment to teaching and fostering a positive work and learning environment.
The post holder should have demonstrable experience in research (ideally using mixed methods) with an appropriate publication record for the level of entry and proven ability to communicate applied health research (or related subjects) to a wide range of audiences including those involved in delivering and commissioning health and social care and/or public health.
