New online global health policy & systems research community

Interested in research to benefit low and middle income countries? Join in, share experiences and learn from UK and LMIC researchers.

Health Services Research UK (HSRUK) is partnering with the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and Health Systems Global (HSG) to build an online community of researchers interested in health policy and systems research to support ODA-eligible low and middle-income countries.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is a world-class leader in applied and health services research. It is looking to build on established national expertise to expand into global health policy and systems research (HPSR). Through a new online community led by HSRUK in partnership with the NIHR and Health Systems Global, you have the chance to share your thoughts and ideas that will help inform future funding and programmes. We want to hear your views on how a new HPSR funding scheme can address priorities in ODA-eligible low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The NIHR is keen to create opportunities that complement other funding initiatives; promote equitable high-income country (HIC)-LMIC and LMIC-LMIC partnerships; and support institutional and individual capacity development in LMICs. HSRUK and HSG are supportive of the NIHR’s aims and encourage researchers across our combined UK and global networks to come together through this new online global HPSR community of interest – where inter-disciplinary expertise and health policy and systems knowledge in a variety of settings is valued. You can also take our survey to share your views with the NIHR.

Why join in? Perhaps you have never considered research in this setting before; this is your chance to explore it further. If you're already working in this space, this is a great opportunity to learn from others and partner in future research for the primary benefit of LMICs. Take part in the global HPSR community to:

  • share your thoughts with the NIHR on priority global HPSR research themes and models, to help shape a new funding opportunity
  • meet other researchers interested in global HPSR, and learn from those already working in this space, both in the UK and LMICs
  • get the latest global HPSR news
  • develop research collaborations and partnerships
  • share learning through and beyond the initial NIHR consultation period
  • hear about plans for NIHR global HPSR calls in 2019/2020
