The NHS contribution to global health and the role of HSR

This blog by Miski Abdi (Save the Children UK and member of the Action for Global Health (AfGH) network) on the Health Systems Global website acknowledges the efforts of the NHS in global health and international development, and identifies a role for health systems researchers in influencing policy.

At the heart of the NHS is its pioneering belief in Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The rallying call that everyone, everywhere, deserves the right to healthcare. A call that the UK answered in 1948 but remains largely unanswered by other countries. The Health Systems Global Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research on 8-12 October in Liverpool will be a crucial mechanism in influencing and pushing governmental policies on health for all.

Read the blog and find out more about the symposium, which will include an NIHR consultation session at 1.30pm on 9 October called ‘The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) – A whole system approach to improving health at national and global level’. Our news story on the NIHR’s exploration of the global health systems research domain also provides context, and interested researchers can join a community of interest.

Our sister organisation Health Systems Global is the international membership fully dedicated to promoting health systems research and knowledge translation.
