Evaluative research to support patient safety collaboratives

This joint seminar hosted by the West of England Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) and supported by the Nuffield Trust and the Health Services Research UK (HSRUK) examined the vital role that evaluative research has to play to support local decision making to improve patient care for communities.

Patient Safety Collaboratives, launched in autumn 2014 and led by England’s 15 Academic Health Sciences Networks (AHSNs), are intended to deliver measurable improvements in patient safety over the next 5 years. They aim to do this by empowering patients to work with local health care delivery to identify safety priorities and develop solutions.

The event was an opportunity for delegates to hear from senior healthcare and research leaders in patient safety discuss the importance of ensuring that local decision-making is based on robust evidence and learn how evaluative research can influence decision making to improve and  patient safety.
