Global Health Policy and Systems Research Commissioned Awards
The aim of the NIHR Global HPSR Commissioned Awards call is to support equitable partnerships between LMIC and UK researchers to generate new research knowledge and evidence to tackle priorities for health systems strengthening in ODA eligible countries in areas identified as priorities through the NIHR’s engagement and consultation exercise (see Call guidance Section 4 for the specific Priority Areas).
Awards of up to £4m for a duration of up to 4 years are available for partnerships/consortia led by two Joint Lead Applicants (one from an LMIC and one from a UK institution) and up to three additional Co-Applicants.

Research Professorship Awards
The aim of the Research Professorship Award is to fund leaders in the early part of their careers to lead research for a fixed five year period, promote effective translation of research and to strengthen research leadership at the highest academic levels.

Research and Innovation for Global Health Transformation (RIGHT)
NIHR RIGHT Call 3 supports equitable partnerships between researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) and those in the UK to generate new research knowledge and evidence on interventions to improve outcomes for people affected by multimorbidities in countries eligible for ODA funding. The deadline for 'Intent to Submit' is 29th November 2019, and the deadline for applications is 15th January 2020. Find out more here.
Research for Social Care
The current RfSC call welcomes proposals for research which generates evidence to improve, expand and strengthen the way adult social care is delivered for users of care services, carers, and the public. Submissions close on 22nd January 2020. Find out more here.
Programme Grants for Applied Research
Applications are invited for Stage 1 research proposals to develop individual programmes. Research funded through a Programme Grant typically consists of an interrelated group of high-quality projects focused on a coherent theme and hence require multidisciplinary approaches, including clinical, health economics, statistics, qualitative and behavioural sciences, to ensure that research objectives can be met. Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases: Primary and/or Secondary Prevention of Cancer
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the Medical Research Council (MRC), in partnership with the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD), is seeking to generate new knowledge on interventions and their implementation for the primary and/or secondary prevention of cancer in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), as defined in the DAC list of ODA recipients.
Collectively the NIHR and MRC will invest up to £6 million for this initiative. This amount is expected to fund several awards.

Invention for Innovation - Product Development Awards Call 19
PDAs fund the development of disruptive early stage medical technologies that address existing or emerging healthcare needs. They support translational projects developing medical devices, active implantable devices and in vitro diagnostic devices.

Health Technology Assessment Programme
The Health Technology Assessment Programme funds research about the clinical and cost-effectiveness and broader impact of healthcare treatments and tests for those who plan, provide or receive care from NHS and social care services. The researcher-led workstream offers researchers the opportunity to submit proposals on topics or research questions within the programme’s remit.

NIHR School for Primary Care Research
The NIHR is inviting academic institutions in England to apply to a new open competition to renew and refresh membership of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR).
The renewed SPCR will conduct world-leading research in primary care which responds to and meets the needs of local populations and local health and care systems, and which addresses the nation’s changing demographics and corresponding impact on disease burdens and service demands.

Tackling multimorbidity at scale: Understanding disease clusters, determinants & biological pathways
This Strategic Priorities Fund research call, jointly funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), will bring together multi-disciplinary collaborations with a range of scientific, methodological, and clinical knowledge and skills to build manageable, focussed “Multimorbidity Research Collaboratives”. These collaboratives will be expected to have strong patient involvement, as benefits the remit of the project, and add significant understanding to a broad range of topics.
